Adventure MX
joins Family Adventures for a
ride at Luneberg
26/27/28 Oct 2006. If you are looking to do something
different and have plenty of fun then book yourself on a weekend away with Family
Adventures. It is not often that I can get away to do some social riding but I had
to make a plan as I heard so many great stories about the Luneberg Ride. We left
just after 1pm on Friday afternoon and arrived at our destination which was the Natal Spa
Resort just outside Paulpietersburg. We were greeted by Glen and Corinne from
Family Adventures, and you were immediately made to feel at home. All in all we were
8 Adventure MX members with family and friends tagging along. We unpacked our
cars and then sat down for a couple of sundowners.
At about half past seven we moved to the dining hall and started with supper which was
a buffet. During the evening Glen gave us a briefing of what was to be expected on
the following day. Everything from terrain issues and lunch was discussed.
After a good meal some of us moved onto the pub for some more socializing. We would
find out soon enough who needed "grandpa" in the morning and who didn't.
On Saterday morning the ride would start at 9.00am
sharp, so
you had to be ready by 8:45am for a final briefing. There were about a 100 riders
taking part for the day. The first part of the ride would be very easy so that kids
and novice riders could also experience the awesome scenery and the thrill of the ride.
The ride would take us into Paulpietersburg where would would have lunch which
consisted of a potjie with rice and salad. The second part of the ride would be more
technical which gave the experienced riders a bit more excitement for the day. This
part of the ride would also take you into the Luneberg area, and if my memory serves me
correctly part of the ride was done in an old crater. The second part of the ride
also provided for some narrow escapes, especially for 2 riders. The first incident
was a girl on a Polaris Scrambler which rolled down a steep bank which we
had to get down. The other was Chris (aka Dop Hond) LTZ 400 which came to a river
crossing about half a "k" before the lodge and proceeded to endo in the river
and almost drown himself. There is a fantastic photo of this event which hopefully I
will get in due course. This will then be posted on "Famous for Today".
For most of the Advenure MX members the ride ended
at about 3
in the afternoon. As you can see by the photo's it was a ride that gave us a good
workout. The rest of the afternoon was spent recovering with alcohol and discussing
the days events. Oh and Chris's little swim is another incident which he will have
to live with long after this day - Tottie. Dinner was started at 7.30pm and then
Glen had a small prize giving for some of the the riders who provided some entertainment
which was caught on video. I can confidently add that the Cotton Clan managed to
break a personnal record for Bar Bills at a Family Adventures weekend. We will keep
the figures confidential.
Prizes that were sponsered by Adventure MX: 2 x ARC Goggles, 1 x Adventure MX Riding Shirt
and 1 x Adventure MX Golf Shirt.
Sunday morning we all woke up at leisure. We ate our last paid
for breakfast, loaded the trailers and cars and then headed off to the pools for a
last/first swim.
We left the Natal Spa Resort at 11.30am to
arrive home at 16.45pm. I can honestly say that this has been one of the most
pleasurable weekends I have had in a long time. I can really recommend this type of
weekend for any family that enjoy's the outdoors with quads or bikes.
THANKS TO GLEN & CORRINE FOR A FANTASTIC WEEKEND!! |
