THANKS: To all the people that came on this weekend. I
could not have asked for a better bunch of guys to have joined me on this weekend. And
then a special thanks to my Father for bringing our kit to the lodge and back to the
factory.
SHORT STORY
We started the weekend on Saterday morning when we got on our bikes and made our way into
sunny De Wildt. Nothing like good old fashioned MX section to get the blood pumping.
We made our way down 3 Fences and stopped at the Ramogatla shop to quench that all
important thirst. We then proceeded on and did the 3 River crossings towards
Jericho. After the last river crossing it is always great to see who takes what path
to get to Jericho first. We re-fuelled at the BP garage and then went on to do
sections of the Borokolalo route. At one point we had to get through a gate and
while trying to open it Brendan decided to let off one of his mini thnderflashes which
almost sounded like a rifle shot - Idiot - I thought it was a farmer taking a shot at us
for a minute. These sections are great for time trial as one can get to high speeds
with the tracks that are so open. The day started getting really hot as the mid sun
took its toll on those that did not drink. Brendan, we discovered later, consumed
about 9 litres of water besides the cooldrink we had at re-fuels. We then made our
way back to the BP garage for lunch where we just about bought out all their egg sammies.
After having recovered from empty stomachs we moved off towards the Lodge. We
made our way down the Sethale River with plenty of competition between the riders.
Just before we get out of the river Ernst - YFZ 450 decided to roll his quad at
70Km/h. He came off pretty lightly considering he only hurt is leg. After
doing some quick repairs to his quad we were all on our way again. We all completed
the 4x4 track in record time and made our way to the Rocky Outcrop. With a unanimous
vote it was time to get to the lodge and get some cold bruskies. The drinks were
first and the pool was second - this was the order of priorities when we arrived.
Dinner was served at 8:00pm with a perfect lamb on the spit. Gregg was 1st man
down..............
Sunday we woke to the bushveld chorus of moans and groans with all the
drinking that was done the previous night. Breakfast was served at 8:00am with
coffee and juice. Nothing like a good bacon & eggs breakfast to get you going
for the day. After breakfast a group photo was taken to remember the occasion and
then we made our way back to Jericho. Some of us were sweeting like pigs to say the
least. Had a quick cooldrink and then made our way back to De Wildt where we met up with 3
fellow riders. We followed various tracks including The Loop which is an awesome
track to practice high speed enduro riding. We finally made our way back to the
Factory and finished the ride with no serious injuries. Even Ernst was able to
finish the ride. We had plenty of slips and slides but they where just funny enough
to earn yourself a round of drinks. Thanks again to all the riders for making this
an awesome weekend.
